Roles and Permissions

MyOwnProxy customer users have one of two roles: ADMIN or VIEWER. Permissions are feature-specific: VIEWER means read-only access on supported pages, not access to every page.

ADMIN

An ADMIN manages the Customer's proxy environment through the customer-facing controls available in MyOwnProxy. This includes configuring resources, managing Proxy Credentials, viewing customer users, creating ADMIN and VIEWER accounts, and managing the status or password of another VIEWER.

ADMIN access does not include every sensitive account-management action. An ADMIN cannot:

  • Change an existing user's role in the customer interface.
  • Suspend, reactivate, or reset the password of another ADMIN.
  • Suspend their own account or reset their own password from Users.
  • Delete users.

An ADMIN changes their own password from the account menu. For the other actions above, contact MyOwnProxy Support.

VIEWER

A VIEWER can review the Dashboard, normal customer resources, operational status, Audit, Observability, and Proxy connection information. A VIEWER cannot perform administrative resource changes or run the Proxy live test.

Like any signed-in customer user, a VIEWER can see their own email address and role in the account menu.

VIEWER access has important current exceptions:

  • A VIEWER cannot access the Users page or view other user accounts.
  • A VIEWER cannot access the Credentials page or view Proxy Credential metadata.
  • A VIEWER has no user-management actions.

A VIEWER can change their own password from the account menu while their account is ACTIVE.

MyOwnProxy administrator actions

Some sensitive account-management actions are restricted to MyOwnProxy administrators. These include deleting users, changing existing role assignments, and performing security actions on ADMIN accounts. Contact MyOwnProxy Support when one of these actions is required.
