Quick Start

Use this guide to go from an empty MyOwnProxy environment to a successful residential proxy request.

Before you begin

You need an ADMIN user and:

  • A Gateway server running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with at least 4 GB of RAM, sudo access, a static public IPv4 address, and stable Internet connectivity.
  • A Raspberry Pi 4 Model B or Raspberry Pi 5 with at least 1 GB of RAM, a 32 GB or larger High Endurance microSD card, the appropriate official power supply, Ethernet, and stable Internet connectivity.
  • A computer with an SD-card imaging tool.

Review System Requirements before continuing.

Set up MyOwnProxy

  1. Create the Gateway. Open Gateways, select Create Gateway, enter its name, region, and public IP, then select Create Gateway.
  2. Install the Gateway. In the Gateway created result, select Copy installation command and run the complete command exactly as displayed on the intended server. Keep it private and wait for the Gateway to become ACTIVE. See Installing a Gateway for details.
  3. Flash the Node image. Open Nodes, select Download GOLD image, and flash the downloaded image to the microSD card with your approved imaging tool.
  4. Create the Node. In Nodes, select Create Node. Enter a name and region, select the Gateway you created, and select Create Node. Securely copy the complete installation configuration from the Node Created result.
  5. Configure the card. Open the customer-editable BOOT partition, create a plain-text file named prpn.conf in its root, and paste the complete generated configuration into it unchanged. Save the file and safely eject the card. The configuration and prepared card are sensitive; do not reconstruct production values from prpn.conf.example. See Preparing and Adding a Node for details.
  6. Boot the Node. Insert the card into the Raspberry Pi, connect Ethernet and the official power supply, and wait for the Node to become ACTIVE. Confirm that it shows the intended Gateway and expected residential public IP.
  7. Use the automatic Pool. You do not need to create a Proxy or configure Pool membership for this test. The Gateway's system-managed pool-all automatically includes its assigned Nodes. The Node must still be operational, eligible, and available.
  8. Create a temporary credential. Open Credentials and find Temporary Credentials. Select the ACTIVE Gateway, confirm that Default Proxy is pool-all, and select Generate Temporary Proxy Credentials. Store the credential securely and note its mandatory expiration. It is limited to Pool access through that Gateway. See Managing Proxy Credentials for details.
  9. Send the first request. In the result, select Copy curl command and run the copied command exactly as displayed to open a fresh proxy connection. Treat it as sensitive because it contains the temporary password. If authentication fails immediately after generating the credential, wait about 30 seconds and retry with a new connection.

The request should return the public residential IP of the Internet connection where the Raspberry Pi is installed. If it does, the basic MyOwnProxy setup is working end to end. For additional checks or troubleshooting, see Verifying Connection.
