Managing Users

Use the Users page to review customer user accounts, create users, and manage supported account-security actions.

Required role

You must be an ADMIN to access the Users page. A VIEWER cannot view the user list or user details and has no user-management actions.

View users

Open Users to see each user's ID, email address, role, status, and creation time. Search by email address or user ID, or filter the list by role and status.

Select a user to review the account in more detail. An ADMIN can view both ADMIN and VIEWER accounts for the same Customer, but the available actions depend on the selected user's role.

Create a user

An ADMIN can create either an ADMIN or a VIEWER for the same Customer. New users are ACTIVE immediately.

  1. Open Users and select Create User.
  2. Enter the user's email address. This is the address the user enters when signing in.
  3. Select ADMIN or VIEWER. Choose VIEWER when the user only needs access to the read-only features available to that role.
  4. Enter and confirm an initial password that meets the displayed password requirements.
  5. Select Create User.
  6. Verify that the new user appears with the intended role and ACTIVE status.
  7. Give the email address and initial password to the user through an approved secure channel. Ask the user to change the password after signing in.

The current workflow does not send an invitation or activation email and does not generate or send a temporary password. The password that you enter is the user's initial password. After creation, MyOwnProxy confirms that the account was created but does not show the password again.

An existing user's email address or role cannot be changed in the current customer interface. Contact MyOwnProxy Support when either value must change.

Suspend a VIEWER

Suspension preserves the user account but blocks the user from signing in. It also ends the user's existing sessions.

  1. Open Users and select the ACTIVE VIEWER.
  2. In Security, select Suspend User.
  3. Verify that the user's status changes to SUSPENDED.

An ADMIN can suspend another VIEWER, but cannot suspend an ADMIN or their own account.

Reactivate a VIEWER

Reactivation lets the user sign in again. It does not restore sessions that ended at suspension and does not change the user's password.

  1. Open Users and select the SUSPENDED VIEWER.
  2. In Security, select Reactivate User.
  3. Verify that the user's status changes to ACTIVE.
  4. Ask the user to sign in again with their current password.

Reset a VIEWER password

An ADMIN can set a new password for another VIEWER, including a SUSPENDED VIEWER. A reset does not reactivate a suspended account.

  1. Open Users.
  2. Select Reset Password from the VIEWER's row, or open the VIEWER and select Reset Password under Security.
  3. Enter and confirm a new password that meets the displayed password requirements.
  4. Select Reset Password.
  5. Give the new password to the user through an approved secure channel.

The previous password stops working, and the user's existing sessions end. The user must sign in again with the new password after the account is ACTIVE.

An ADMIN cannot use this action to reset another ADMIN's password or their own password.

Change your own password

Self-service password change is available to both ADMIN and VIEWER users while their accounts are ACTIVE.

  1. Open the account menu in the top bar and select Change Password.
  2. Enter your current password.
  3. Enter and confirm a new password that meets the displayed password requirements.
  4. Select Change Password.
  5. Sign in again with the new password.

Changing your password ends your existing sessions. If you cannot sign in or do not know your current password, contact an ADMIN when you are a VIEWER, or contact MyOwnProxy Support when you are an ADMIN.

Understand user status

Status Meaning
ACTIVE The account can sign in. A newly created user starts in this status.
SUSPENDED The account cannot sign in. Its existing sessions have ended, but the account remains available for later reactivation.

Actions that require MyOwnProxy Support

Some sensitive account-management actions are restricted to MyOwnProxy administrators. Contact MyOwnProxy Support to:

  • Change an existing user's email address or role.
  • Suspend, reactivate, or reset the password of an ADMIN.
  • Delete a user.

MyOwnProxy will not perform an account-management action that would leave the Customer without an active ADMIN. Create and verify another ADMIN before requesting such a change.
